Tree Limb and Brush Removal in Owensboro, KY

Updated 2026-10-30

What to do with a pile of limbs

A storm drops a limb, or you finally cut back the overgrown corner of the yard, and now there is a pile that is bigger than your trash can by about forty times. Good news: Owensboro has real options. Some are curbside, some are a drive to the county drop-off, and one is calling a hauler.

Everything below about city and county services was checked on 2026-10-30 against official City of Owensboro and Daviess County pages. Rules change, so use the phone numbers to confirm before you cut or load anything.

One clarification up front. Clutter Cleaners hauls limbs and brush. We do not trim, cut or take down trees. If a limb is still on the tree, you need a tree service first. If it is on the ground, we can take it from there.

Option 1: City of Owensboro limb collection

The City of Owensboro Sanitation Department collects limbs, brush and bagged yard waste at the curb on your regular trash day during limb season.

What the city's pages say:

  • Season: The city states regular limb collection concluded Friday, October 23, 2026 and resumes Monday, February 15, 2027. Leaf collection ran from October 26, 2026 through February 15, 2027.
  • Size: Limbs must be smaller than 6 inches in diameter. They can be up to 30 feet long.
  • Placement: Set material behind the curb by 6:00 a.m., with cut ends facing the street. Do not block it with cars. No alley pickups.
  • Bags and cans: Loose material goes in bags or your own can, 30 pounds or less each.
  • Weekly limit: Collection is capped at one pickup-truck-sized load per week.
  • Not accepted: Lumber, cement or rocks, dirt of any kind, and root balls.
  • Contractor work: Service covers only what you or your household cut. If a paid worker cut it, the property owner has to make sure it is removed.

The city also says crews pause loose-limb pickup during leaf season. A separate older city notice gives a different restart date, so use the city's current page and call 270-687-8760 (Sanitation Department) if you are unsure.

Option 2: Drop it off at the Grimes Ave Transfer Station

Daviess County Grimes Ave Transfer Station & Convenience Center 2129 Grimes Avenue, Owensboro, KY 42303 Monday to Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; Saturday, 7:00 a.m. to noon Phone: 270-688-8138

The county page says brush, limbs and concrete are ground and reused. It also says all trailers must be properly tarped for the entire route to the station, and untarped trailers can be fined. The county posts its current fees on its Transfer Station Rates page, which lists yard waste (chips and whole limbs) as a line item. Check it before you load.

Two things worth knowing from that rates page: a load declared as one thing but containing another (brush mixed with tires, for example) can be charged as misidentified waste, so keep it separated. And the City of Owensboro's limb page describes a disposal benefit at this site for city sanitation customers who bring a current sanitation bill and photo ID, with loads secured. If that might apply to you, ask the county when you call.

Option 3: The landfill

The West Daviess County Landfill (7772 KY 815, Owensboro, KY 42301; Monday to Friday 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Saturday 7:00 a.m. to noon; 270-229-4484) lists yard waste as accepted on its acceptable-waste page. It does not say whether limbs and brush are included, and the Grimes Ave station is the county's brush and limb drop-off, so call ahead before you head out to the landfill with a trailer of branches.

What about leaves and bagged yard waste?

The city collects leaves in bags or yard waste cans during leaf season, and paying customers can use year-round bag and can service per the city's page. Leaves should not be mixed with other debris. The city's neighborhood cleanup days do not take yard waste.

Where the plan breaks down

Each of those options works if the pile is small, in the right size range and you have the time. Here is where people get stuck:

  • The pile is bigger than one pickup-truck load. The city caps weekly curbside pickup at that size, and a storm can drop more than that.
  • The limbs are thick. Anything 6 inches or wider is not eligible for the city's curbside service.
  • It is out of season. Limb collection is paused until February 15, 2027.
  • You have no truck, or no trailer you trust to stay tarped.
  • Your back has an opinion. Dragging wet limbs across a yard is a lot.

This is the point where the hauling is the hard part. Cutting a limb down to size takes a saw and a few minutes. Getting that pile to a transfer station, in a tarped trailer, within open hours, is what turns it into a lost Saturday.

When it is easier to have Clutter Cleaners haul it

Clutter Cleaners hauls limbs and brush from homes in Owensboro and across Daviess County. Our crews do the carrying, the loading and the drive. You do not need to bundle, cut to length for the city's rules, or schedule around curbside collection dates. If you also have old lawn furniture, a rusted grill, or a few bags of yard waste that came with the cleanup, tell us and we will plan for it on the same visit.

A few honest notes. We are a paid hauling service, and pricing comes from Clara or a phone call, not a guess in an article. We do not trim or fell trees, and dirt, rocks and concrete are heavy and different, so mention them up front. If a tree is leaning on your house or a power line, that is a call for a tree service and the utility first.

See how it works on our yard debris cleanup in Owensboro page.

Quick decision guide

  • Small pile, under 6 inches thick, limb season is on: use city curbside, cut ends toward the street.
  • Off season, or you have a truck and a tarp: Grimes Ave Transfer Station, after checking posted fees.
  • Big pile, wet limbs, no truck, or no spare Saturday: have a hauler take it.
  • Limbs still on the tree: you need a tree service first.
